50 Years of Heart & Heritage

50 Years of Heart & Heritage

The story of Hub’s Restaurant is a testament to the perseverance, courage, and integrity. Tony arrived in the United States from Arcadia, Greece, with only $2 in his pocket. Sponsored by family, he came to this country with a vision to build a life through true grit and hard work.

The American Dream on Dempster Street

While the restaurant itself dates back to the 1960s, it entered its most defining chapter on March 1, 1976, when the Thanoukos Brothers purchased the original Skokie location. Although the business eventually expanded, this location on Dempster Street remained the permanent home and heart of Tony’s career. It was here in the late 1970s that he met his wife, Ann. After marrying in 1980, they raised three children [Victoria, Stella, and Bill] who all grew up within these restaurant walls.

Honoring a Half Century of Service

Honoring a Half Century of Service

As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we are incredibly proud to announce that Tony’s dedication to the community is being recognized by our government leaders. Tony will be the recipient of a formal Senate Proclamation from Senator Ram Villivalam and a Congressional Record from Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. These honors recognize Tony’s 50 years of community impact, from sponsoring local little leagues and temple fundraisers to providing a "home away from home" for the district.
The Next Generation

The Next Generation

Today, the legacy continues. Tony’s son, Bill, is a daily fixture at the restaurant, and a third generation of young grandchildren [ages 3 to 7] can often be found "helping" their Papou.
